The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for an Intern to assist with the day to day operations in their Finance department. The experience is aimed at providing exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and revenue recognition. In addition, the Intern will have be assisting with the   annual financial audit. The ideal candidate will have completed relevant accounting and finance course-work and has an interest/desire to work toward a professional career in Accounting or Finance.

Project(s)/Scope of Work:

  • Assist with the Month-end close activities including day-to-day operational activities and account reconciliations.
  • Provide assistance and support for the Annual Audit, including compiling backup needed from the PBC List provided by the Auditors. Additionally help organize and consolidate any electronic or other support documents for easier review by the Auditors.
  • Assist with the fixed asset record inventory, identify records for removal from corporate fixed asset list and insure that all assets have all the appropriate backup.

Skills/Knowledge Intern Will Gain:

  • Learn about the mission and internal operations of a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Gain practical experience with financial systems used in a finance department.
  • Improve time management skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines based on set timelines.
  • Strengthen organizational skills by working with multiple departments in the organization.


Education and Experience:

  • Completed at least three (3) years of college and coursework in Accounting, Business or Finance preferably.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with intermediate proficiency in Excel.
  • General knowledge or exposure to accounting systems preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess good organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
