The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for an Intern in their Operations and Development (O&D) department to serve as a data analyst on several cross-departmental analysis projects. The Intern would have an opportunity to use analytic and statistical skills in a business settings providing insight into business needs and problems. The outcomes would provide SfN with support for 2017 analytical goals and further SfN's business intelligence initiative. The Intern would work across the organization with many departments including Scientific Publications, Neuroscience Literacy & BrainFacts.org, Marketing & Sales, Membership & Professional Development, and Operations & Development.

Project(s)/Scope of Work:

  • Analyze data around priority SfN priority areas such as Membership, Scientific Publications and Annual Meeting.
  • Use SfN's data to and determine trends in SfN membership benchmarks, retention rates, attendee numbers, and other rates of engagement, based on business function.
  • Discover opportunities for documenting data quality standards and ensure data quality and accuracy within the data warehouse, as well as source systems.
  • Create work products as needed to communicate and explain their work and the results either verbally or in written format for a variety of stakeholders.

The intern may employ the objectives in one or more the following business areas:

  • Membership Strategy & Analytics
  • Program Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Annual Meeting Data Analytics
  • Fundraising/Giving
  • Scientific Publications

Skills/Knowledge Intern Will Gain:

  • Learn about the mission and internal operations of a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization.
  • Strengthen statistical analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Gain knowledge of new software systems such as Personify, SAP Web-Intelligence and Explorer, Tableau.
  • Improve writing and presentation skills.
  • Team/Unit Contribution.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Completed at least three (3) years of college and coursework in data analysis preferred.
  • Completion of some Human Resources coursework preferred.
  • Proficiency in working with PC computers and in Microsoft Office.
  • SQL, MS Access, or programming language experience a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess good organizational skills.
  • Highly analytical, logical, and good problem solver.
