The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a people focused junior HR Generalist who wants to join a collaborative team in support of SfN' s mission to advance the understanding of the brain and nervous system. 

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to establish strong working relationships throughout all levels of the organization are key. 

This position is ideal for a mid-level HR Generalist who is passionate about HR and is looking to take the next step. 


This is a true Generalist role and you will be responsible for the functional areas such as benefits administration, policy implementation, compliance, recruiting, and onboarding.  The position reports directly to the Director of HR & Talent Management and you will also have the opportunity to broaden your portfolio and support the development and implementation of strategic and tactical initiatives and programs. 

Operational HR

  • Continuously monitors legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions; and recommends changes to policies, procedures, and reporting in order to maintain compliance.
  • Manage benefits administration, including all health and welfare programs, liaises with brokers and administrators, and ensures compliance with any testing and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Finance Department in support of payroll process management.
  • Monitor and administer the compensation program to ensure market competitiveness, compliance and equity within organization.
  • Manage vendor relationships for various benefit programs.
  • Keeps records of participation is benefit plans, which will include all medical, insurance and retirement plans.  Monitor employment transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations.
  • Update, revise and manage the employee handbook and responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.

Talent Acquisition & Management

  • Supports tactical and operational aspects of full-cycle talent acquisition function.
  • Manage on-boarding program.
  • Serve as trusted advisor to management and employees to facilitate appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Research HR best practice programs and makes appropriate recommendations in support and in alignment of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Conduct exit interviews, monitor separation data to regularly report on key separation factors, and propose retention strategies.
  • Partner with the Director of HR & Talent Management to conduct training needs assessments, make recommendations, and maintains training records.
  • Coordinate employee training by managing enrollment and expense reimbursement; and capture employee training and development activity.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR Management or other relevant field.
  • 3 years of progressive professional level HR Generalist experience to include benefits administration, compliance and compensation management, and working knowledge of payroll processes and HRIS administration.
  • Proficient in understanding and interpreting employment law.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • 1 year supervisory or team-lead experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ability to show good judgment and logic, analyze data, identify trends, and establish meaningful metrics/reports.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • PHR and/or SHRM-CP
