The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Digital Content Associate who will help manage key elements of the content production process and write and edit content for Neuronline, SfN's members-only website that provides year-round professional development, scientific research, and training content. The Associate will be part of a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and innovative team that helps to provide member value by producing content that spotlights diverse research, initiatives, and conversations occurring across the neuroscience field. In addition to writing, editing, and handling content, the Associate will also draft social media posts to disseminate content.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Handles elements of the Neuronline content production and review process, including for large on-going projects, which will include liaising with contributors and SfN staff and tracking review statuses
  • Writes and edits Neuronline articles sourced from SfN's programmatic committees, annual meeting, members, and partners
  • Draft weekly social media posts, including selecting photos, for Neuronline articles
  • Participates in editorial meetings and other brainstorms with the DSN team, SfN-wide staff, and volunteer leaders to plan for future content
  • Contributes to the planning for and execution of special Neuronline content activities at SfN's annual meeting
  • Assists with reporting for SfN staff and volunteer committees
  • Handles ad hoc copyediting, writing, content management system (CMS), and administrative requests


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree; communications or other relevant field required
  • 1-2 years of work experience with a minimum of one year of professional experience in areas relevant to the position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with photo editing software, such as Photoshop
  • Basic knowledge of Google Analytics and SharePoint
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including an ability to master organizational style guides and incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders
  • Attention to detail to ensure that content is grammatically correct and formatted in ways that are visually appealing for web reading
  • Strong and proactive organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate a diverse set of content production activities ' such as content review and contributor outreach ' on established, tight, and often competing timelines
  • Ability to keep relevant stakeholders informed at the appropriate stages to ensure seamless knowledge-sharing and collaboration
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, primarily Facebook and Twitter, and an ability to write accurate and compelling posts that drive traffic to content
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to work with SfN staff across departments and external stakeholders, including volunteer committee members, SfN members, and other Neuronline content contributors and reviewers
  • Effective oral, written, and business communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to practice sound judgment and problem solve issues when they arise
  • Ability to work within a highly collaborative team environment while also knowing how and when to take initiative
