The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Web Editor Assistant who will manage the content management system (CMS) and related processes and activities for Neuronline, SfN's members-only website that provides year-round professional development, scientific research, and training content. This role will report to the Digital Content Manager and will be part of a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and innovative team that that works to spotlight diverse research, initiatives, and conversations occurring across the neuroscience field. The Assistant is responsible for managing the Neuronline CMS, including uploading and publishing all articles, developing and maintaining SOPs, helping to integrate new CMS templates and updates, troubleshooting issues, and reporting. This is an ideal position for someone who has the ability to learn and manage technical processes and write for and communicate with different audiences, and someone who is highly organized with good self-management and interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Handles all facets of the CMS entry process in an efficient and error-free way.
  • Publishes all Neuronline content according to the Neuronline editorial calendar.
  • Follows up with stakeholders, providing excellent customer service by sharing published articles.
  • Maintains the visual appearance of the front-end of Neuronline.
  • Troubleshoots all CMS issues, collaborating closely with technology services and other teams.
  • Represents the Neuronline CMS in ad-hoc conversations and ongoing projects related to usability, template updates, and other innovations.
  • Runs reporting for committees and departments using the editorial calendar, Google Analytics, and custom reporting templates.
  • Handles ad hoc administrative, writing and copyediting requests.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, web design, or other relevant field required.
  • 2 year's work experience with a minimum of one year of professional experience in areas relevant to the job.
  • Working knowledge of CMS interfaces. Aptitude and interest in learning how to use Sitecore (SfN's CMS).
  • Experience in online communications, planning, managing, and developing website content and web projects, as well as writing and editing content for the web.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with HTML.
  • Experience in communicating to and writing for different audiences.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong and proactive organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate a diverse set of activities on established, tight, and often competing timelines.
  • Experience liaising with an IT/technology services team to troubleshoot CMS issues and/or introduce CMS innovations.
  • Good text editing skills, including an ability to master organizational style guides.
  • A strong eye for detail and quality control to ensure that content is entered correctly to the CMS to ensure that website visitors see accurate, fresh, and visually appealing content.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to work with SfN staff across departments and potentially external stakeholders.
  • Effective oral, written, and business communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice sound judgment and problem solve issues when they arise.
  • Ability to work within a highly collaborative team environment while also knowing how and when to take initiative.
  • Familiarity with photo editing software, such as Photoshop.
