The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Junior Graphic Designer that will provide design and creative services to the in-house Creative Services team. In addition, the Designer will assist in the development of marketing collateral, events materials, advertisements and large volume high-quality, brand-enhancing graphic presentations by executing print and online layouts and developing original designs. This is an ideal opportunity for a designer with one or two years of experience that wants to take their skills to the next level.

The Job:

  • Lays out text, based on established designs, ensuring consistent application of design principles, such as grids, typographic hierarchy and readability, as well as SfN brand guidelines in web and print format.
  • Executes new presentations of design congruent with the complex design standards outlined for the department by leadership.
  • Assists Senior Graphic Designer with creative and innovative solutions to expand upon and refresh established designs.
  • Prepares final layout files for printer on paper, disk or for FTP upload; checks proofs.
  • Creates finished layout, or prepares instructions for others who assemble and prepare final layouts.
  • Studies illustrations, photographs, and text to plan presentation of materials, products, or services.
  • Engages with client or supervisor to evaluate individual project needs and advise on design options with guidance from supervisor.
  • Supports effective communication with internal and external clients by participating actively in assessment meetings, design presentations, and ongoing brand identity education.
  • Reviews and helps ensure high quality of final product, providing multiple options, and prepare layout/samples for approval.
  • Serves as a steward for the SfN brand and style guidelines and reinforce brand consistency and corporate identity policy.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field required.
  • One to two years of graphic design experience.
  • Advanced expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (with a strong emphasis in InDesign) including Adobe Creative Cloud (CC), Dreamweaver, Flash, and Acrobat, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and basic HTML.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of graphics and design fundamentals
  • Experience with print and web either through school or an internship
  • Must be detail oriented and demonstrate strong attention to efficiency and organization.
  • Strong time and project management skills.
  • Ability to multitask under tight deadlines and extreme time restrictions.
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with high demands on prompt communication and project delivery.
