The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Writer/Editor who will write and edit content for Neuronline, SfN's members-only website that provides year-round professional development, scientific research, and training content. The Writer /Editor will also conduct outreach to Neuronline content contributors and manage the content review process. This role will report to the Digital Content Manager and be part of a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and innovative team that that works to spotlight diverse research, initiatives, and conversations occurring across the neuroscience field. This is an ideal position for someone who has the ability to effectively write and communicate to different audiences, has strong interpersonal skills, and has a high attention to detail, organization, and process.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Writes and edits Neuronline articles.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for site content contributors from outreach through publication.
  • Handles all elements of the Neuronline content review process, which includes liaising with site contributors and SfN staff and updating a review tracker.
  • Participates in Neuronline editorial team meetings.
  • Assists with the administrative coordination of Neuronline content email blasts and other ad hoc promotions.
  • Contributes to the planning for and execution of special Neuronline content activities at SfN's annual meeting.
  • Handles ad hoc copyediting, writing, reporting, and administrative requests. 


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree; communications, publishing, or other relevant field required.
  • 2 year's work experience with a minimum of one year of professional experience in areas relevant to the job.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Superior and proactive organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate a diverse set of content production activities on established, tight, and often competing timelines and collaborate with many stakeholders


  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to master organizational style guides.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to work with SfN staff across departments and external stakeholders, including volunteer committee members, SfN members, and other Neuronline content contributors and reviewers.
  • Effective oral, written, business communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice sound judgment and problem solve issues when they arise.
  • Ability to work within a highly collaborative team environment while also knowing how and when to take initiative.
  • Ability to keep relevant stakeholders informed of projects at the appropriate stages to ensure seamless knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
  • Basic knowledge of SharePoint.
