The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Web Communications Manager to work with members of SfN's Media & Communications team to manage content publishing for all aspects of the Society's corporate website, SfN.org.  The Manager will keep abreast of web trends and best practices and seek input to make sure the site strategically communicates to an external audience via content, navigation and organization; serve as a liaison between internal departments and help support the strategic goals of the Society through the website. In addition, they will integrate web strategies with other communications efforts and provide counsel, guidance, and support to content publishers to assist with their web presence. The role requires the creation and management of content in a timely and efficient manner and leading web content governance for the Society. This is an ideal position for someone who is an experienced communicator, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to thrive working under tight deadlines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the content publishing activities and coordinate tasks with approvers/stakeholders.
  • Assist departments with improving new and existing web content and structure that enhances communications effectiveness.
  • Analyze regular website data using Google Analytics and other tools and provide strategic plan direction to the Director, Media & Communications. Research web-related tools, technologies, and strategies to enhance the Society's web presence. 
  • Regularly collaborate with Digital Communications Manager and Media & Communications Manager, as well as Digital Strategy team.
  • Continuously validate user experience (UX) by proactively auditing and improving the site
  • Align with teams on all cross-functional timelines.
  • Develop and maintain content governance guide and provide guidelines to internal departments. Create clear understanding of how the website content fits into SfN's content ecosystem.
  • Provide weekly status reports on content publishing requests.
  • Keep current with new web technologies and recommend applications as aligned with the strategic goals and program audience engagement plans.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises a Web Editor.
  • Delegates effectively, communicates expectations clearly, and provides professional development opportunities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or other relevant field required.
  • Minimum of 4 years in planning, managing, and developing web site content and web projects, as well as writing and editing content for the Web, and expertise with web-based technologies.
  • CMS proficiency.
  • Minimum 1 year supervisory or team-lead experience required. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Five years of progressively responsible work-related experience in digital communications.
  • Two or more years of proven success leading and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of user experience, content strategy, and web publishing (HTML and CSS), SEM, lead generation, Google Analytics, and SEO.  
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivation to stay current on web, design and content trends.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and remain responsible and accountable for results.
  • Proven ability to research, plan, manage, and analyze complex projects from start to finish.  
  • Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
