The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Marketing Assistant to support the Marketing Manager in the execution of plans and projects that may include, but are not limited to, the following: membership, annual meeting and scientific publications. This is an ideal position for a candidate with a high attention to detail, strong communication skills, the ability to adapt, and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with multiple departments and team members to coordinate and implement marketing campaigns for membership, annual meeting, scientific publications, and a variety of other organizational priorities.
  • Drafts content for marketing emails and collateral materials targeting diverse, scientific audiences.
  • Coordinates intra- and interdepartmental reviews for marketing copy, incorporating edits from multiple stakeholders.
  • Using HubSpot platform, builds and formats marketing emails according to organizational standards, ensuring quality and accuracy in all aspects of content and logistics.
  • With IT and other departmental stakeholders, coordinates the creation and use of email and postal contact lists, ensuring accuracy of data and segmentation.
  • Coordinates design and production of marketing materials, ensuring brand delivery, accuracy of production, and timely submission of work requests.
  • Assists with organization's product sales, including coordinating inventory, making updates to online store, ensuring proper order fulfillment, researching and responding to customer claims, and assisting in coordinating logistics for onsite store at organization's annual meeting.
  • Staffs organization's annual meeting for one week each fall (location rotates among San Diego, Chicago, and Washington, DC).


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a related field required.
  • One year of experience in a professional setting.
  • Knowledge of MS Office.


  • Strong office automation skills (word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software), as well as internet research skills.
  • Conscientious and highly detail-oriented, with strong eye for quality control.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Ability to set priorities to accommodate diverse perspectives and address changing needs.
  • Ability to be nimble and work in a team environment with fast turnarounds and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly (preferred: experience working with databases and email marketing systems such as HubSpot).
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to provide superior customer service to internal stakeholders.
