The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Leadership Development Specialist who will be responsible for the general management of SfN's Trainee Professional Development Award (TPDA) program, including the development and implementation of its Leadership Development Program pilot. The Specialist must have excellent communication skills, have the ability to see projects through their lifecycle, and have an aptitude for technology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Trainee Professional Development Awards (TPDA) Program

  • Regularly liaise with representatives of RhythmQ to ensure functioning of submission and selection platform.
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems with system when possible.
  • Oversee advertising for awards, including supporting plan development and implementation.
  • Review submitted TPDA applications to ensure eligibility.
  • Serves as staff liaison to the TPDA Selection Committee; designates review groups and assigns appropriate applications for review.
  • Review scoring reports in accordance with rubric established by Professional Development Committee.
  • Liaise frequently with colleagues across the Society for intraoffice meetings to support all aspects of program implementation.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure TPDA website is updated in accordance Awards Committee intent.
  • Manage and track project budget.
  • Administer online survey tools to gather participant data for all phases of the program.
  • Manage updated profiles of winners (keeping track of survey responses and their W9/W8's).
  • Manage applicant communications following award selection.
  • Manage communications with TPDA winners, including but not limited to, opportunities at SfN's annual meeting and information about year-round professional development curriculum.
  • Leverage Neuronline to create a year-round online community for recipients.
  • Work with membership colleagues to monitor and measure effectiveness of program for membership retention.
  • Manage award portal for TPDA applicants.
  • Serve as main point of contact for awardees.
  • Manage Trainee Professional Development Award poster session at annual meeting.

Leadership Development Program (LDP)

  • Assist Senior Manager, Professional Development, as necessary with communications and logistics and planning associated with the management of Leadership Development Working Group
  • Keep track of and provide revisions to documents pertaining to development of LDP
  • Manage communications with LDP cohort throughout lifecycle of the program
  • Work with internal and external teams to ensure successful year-round programming
  • Work with internal and external teams to monitor and evaluate programming; benchmark results against program goals

General Duties

  • Assist in the department's annual budget and goal planning, and routinely monitor and report on areas of responsibility
  • Serve as an engaged and involved team member, supportive of the varied experiences and perspectives of internal and external colleagues.
  • Support and actively contribute to an office culture dedicated to superior customer service that exceeds member expectations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Supervisory Experience:

  • None.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, communications, liberal arts or business required.
  • Four (4) years of program management experience with experience in leadership development programs preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to coordinate a diverse set of activities.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities, take initiative, and work within a collaborative team environment.
  • Able to plan and execute tasks, on schedule and with attention to detail.
  • Strongly proficient with Microsoft Office applications, and Internet research.
  • Previous experience in a membership organization or a professional society strongly preferred.
